Just don't raise your voice, keep your hands open, palms upward and always visible, in case he feels threatened by a privileged white male firearms lobbyist...

    Haha thanks @Cordite.
He was pretty ok to chat with and he said everything was off the record as he doesnt know exactly what is going to happen.
He was very much of the opinion that you dont use semis for hunting so you dont need them. Said he is a hunter and as a former cop can rember having fun with semis at the range wasting ammo.

The gist was all semi auto center fires will be gone including sks.
Registration is coming as a gradual thing
You will have to pay a registration fee every time you buy a gun.
Anything with more than 5 shots will be gone, including tube mags, for center fire including shotguns.
And he said he was one of the more liberal MP's.

Of course it's all anecdotal and he was pretty honest in saying that he doesnt know a huge amount at the moment

    So 5 rounds for non-semi?
That's going to take out the heirloom 303's.
    Not good.

Hmmm good point he seemed to be indicating more like pump or lever action, but didnt specifically exclude bolt actions so I guess it could include them.

He asked if I had any semi autos which I dont, but when i mentioned i had a pump action shotgun he asked what the capacity of it was, 5 of course, also mentioned i had a .22 lever action, it only holds 10.

He did say that .22 semiautomatic were excluded because they have a legitimate use by farmers for pest control

He did mention e cat, but he said MSSA's are gone but there still will be an e cat license for those in 3 gun and professional use.
Which was confusing as but I ran out of time to clarify what he ment by that.
Guessing it could mean semi auto but with 5 round mags maybe, just speculation

Well, when all the dust and smoke settles, the hysteria calms, and rational seeps its way back into society,....they,will hopefully compile a list of “actual”firearms that wil be legal ,versus non-legal.....

In 5 years no one is going to give a toss. In 10 years even less
The thing with change that is out of your control is you can (as a minority) either resist it, fight it and not get anywhere and stay bitter all your life or (as a majority) accept the change and go with it
Personally I don't have a choice so will have to go with the new legislation. Not happy I am going to lose 1 firearm but glad I got to play with that and quite a few others.
Future generations won't have those experiences and memories. Makes us the lucky ones

@Dan88, that's the gist of what I got from some senior National Party people as well.
Based on OZ and especially NSW model is what I was told.

Just be aware O'Connor was the Police Association President before Chris Cahill. We all thought O'Connor was bad at the time.
    How little did we know.
