Just where will the $100 to $500 million come from?

I know its been discussed in other threads, bt I thought it would be good to have it all together.

So we know a buy back was mentioned, even the PM said she doesn't know how much it would cost, but was relying on some advice from somewhere/someone that had the rather laughable estimate of $100 million to $200 million.
This would seem to be based only on existing E-Cat holders and how many registered MSSAs we have.

But COLFO have said its more realistically going to be $500 million, which I agree with.

$500 million isn't small fry, so where is this coming from?

Increase income and or business taxes?
Bring in a Capital Gains Tax?
Somehow increase people's Kiwisaver payments and skim the increase off?
    Cancel planned and funded infrastructure?
Cut central government public sector pay?

Or, sell the the confiscated firearms to the few markets that could take them. Which is really just the USA. This would require getting around US rules about them being 'foreign' firearms though and is incredibly hypocritical about 'making NZ communities safer', but making another country's society possibly more dangerous (that's debatable).

Or more realistically sell the mil spec quality stuff to Police forces worldwide with comparable equipment. No way would this be replacement market value, so we are screwed. Its possible the government might meet the replacement value shortfall.
Either way we wont find out for months, possibly years after the supposed 11 April deadline to hand them in.

    Your thoughts?

A supposed 15,000 ar/aks to by back and that can be traced from imports starting ealy 2000ish when mossberg started using AR mags in bolt guns. That started the work around of the E-cat laws. It's got much worse in the last 10yrs leading to a vertual free for all of AR parts.

More than likely a large increase in the cost of having a firearms licence, and a much shorter term before renewal.

They have already stuck it to a number of us licence holders, why not stick it to the rest of us and make us pay for the rifles being confiscated.

Good point. They could make new license/renewal fees $250-$300, which would also work for the UN long term goals of making people give up their license/firearms due to the cost.

With more than one e-cat firearm. And those are generally a lot more valuable too, with all the nice bells and whistles.

Don't worry, we can use the increased taxes on the trees processed in future. Oh, .... wait, .... there was no-one left with the ability to deal with all the pest species that ate the seedlings. Oops, and the other primary industries that will be coping with increased pest pressure.

It’s quite simple really. Borrow as much as you want, spend like mad, accumulating large debt. Next time you get back in power, you’ll discover that the evil guy you replaced has actually cleared a big chunk of debt, allowing you to spend/borrow like mad again.

Bottom line is the govt dosent have money, its tax payers money so we will in effect be paying ourselves to some degree.
