The Man in the Street and other Peoples Views

I just came across this opinion piece in Stuff (whom I generally try to avoid, but occasionally I weaken and venture into for a browse around)

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/chr...new-zealanders

My apologies if its already been discussed.

I agree with the author's premise, and particularly her means of analysis where she points out that "they" must consider how others ("us" in this case) see things. It behooves "us" to do the same, if only to develop the language and logic needed to convince "them" that a fair go for the lawful firearms community can be compatible with public safety.

thanks Tentman, that was refreshingly rational after the wall of hysteria from media recently!

I'll look for Kate MacNamara's reports with interest.

More than half. She is a smart woman and no mistake. Good to see unbiased journalism of this calibre.

Saw this on a non-firearms-related site, and he makes good points IMO:

...last year when a garage was 'outed' as failing to properly inspect a car that was later involved in a fatal crash due to a seat belt that failed?... The Govt/media hounded the inspectors (workshops) around the country for a week of news cycle as the villianous culprits.

...but when a gunman with evil agenda is given a gun licence, it is not the inspection process and inspector that is hounded by the govt/media and swiftly outed as the excuse but the 'mechanical' device that is outlawed.

The difference? One set of 'inspectors' are a privately operated convenient scape goat, the other is the governments own agency that can never be seen to do wrong.....unless it is under a royal commission of enquiry, a decade later when all the 'players' have long moved on to other troughs.
