    Police Firearms changes

    Hi All,

    I received this email yesterday from Chris Bishop (I'm assuming plenty of you received it as well)..

    "The Police are planning a huge shake-up to the existing system, with hundreds of arms officers and firearms licensing vettors set to lose their jobs.

    The Police are proposing:
    All firearms activity and personnel will be managed by, and report to the Arms Act Service Delivery Group;
    That firearms administration tasks will be moved away from districts and towards central management;
    To establish a new national Service Centre, based in Kapiti, to manage end-to-end firearms administration; and
    Disestablishing hundreds of field-based arms officer and firearms licensing vettors; replacing them with a far fewer number of new positions at lower pay-scales.
    Ive received a lot of feedback from people already, and the general view is that there are huge risks in what the Police are proposing. There will be a massive loss of institutional expertise through the disestablishment of arms officers and licensing vetting officers. To make matters worse, only six weeks has been allowed for consultation which is a pitiful amount of time given the large changes proposed. This proposal has come totally out of the blue and has shocked many people.

    Id be interested in your thoughts. You can email me on chris.bishop@national.org.nz or simply reply to this email."
    If my work annoys me, I cull them

    Centralising facilitates passive aggression: long unjustified waiting times, arbitrary interpretation of law, and bureaucrats not having to personally face law abiding firearms owners on the receiving end.

    Once the locals have been laid off we will feel it, but by then it will be very hard to complain hard enough for things to change back. Won't happen. It will of course all have to be done by computer, with the final fantasy worked towards being a working, full firearms register.

    Theres a bunch of posts going round on the Facebook pages at present that the proposed review has been canned

    According to the the Police website just now that is not the case so stay alert , and keep bombarding the appropriate people with your emails .

    agree with this ....and to add that errors will be made things will slip between the cracks and when the next firearm related crime occurs police wont accept responsibility but will use it to push for tighter controls over us non criminal law abiding firearms owners

    Ok. I got the same email.
    My question is, how the hell did the National party get my contact details, as I have never had any dealings with them. ?
    Does this mean that all fal holders are on a `shopping list`?
