    Sentencing for firearms crime

I think now is a good time for us, as responsible firearms users, to point out that the courts do not take such activities as illegal firearms possession seriously enough. Everyday there's people going through the courts on various charges relating to firearms, yet they are not taken as seriously as I would hope. Many charges are tied in with meth charges, domestic violence, etc.

I saw one guy last year get 90hrs community service for being caught with a rifle in his boot. It was his 3rd time being convicted for the same thing.

Maybe it's something we can include in any submissions, etc, we send in.

Part of the mandate/release for this review was also looking at sentencing and penalties, probably the perfect time for you to have your say

we bein tryin to do this for bloody years but those dopey pricks in the woolshed and the justice dept are either totally blinded by their own brilliance or completely bedazzled by nefarious legal beagles or godf help me dooery old socialist academics -a lot past their useby date. of course if you wandered into the woolshed with a marrow up your clacker theyd all come out with expressions of sympathy fllowed by the obese mares of TV1&3 and their equally nauseating syncophantic jaffaland male arseholes feedi ng on your discomfot!
Me -fuck em all id rather switch to el Jazeera or BBC TV -top quality international news presented by consumate professionals -mass slaughter presented a horror ,not a 3ring circus -you get my drift and their talkback /opinion items are a gem to watch.

Agree 110%. Supply weapons illegally to a double murderer and then some, get 12 months home detention... https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/a...ectid=12075259

That's another case of a police screw up. Cops called in on the murderer to be, regarding his homemade shooting range, and left. He did not have a FAL and it was not picked up on...

We do the right thing because we aren't criminals, not because doing the wrong thing is easier or more convenient, cheaper or because the punishment isn't harsh. Breaking the law is almost always all if those things, but it is still breaking the law.

Don't get me started on home d, it's always half the jail sentence, eg sentenced to 12 months jail, automatically commuted to 6 months home d. Should be doubled, not bloody halved.

The worse thing is it seems like the career crims get little to no real punishment and therefore little to no incentive to abide by the law.

Generally upstanding law abiding citizens get hammered harder for relatively minor offences because being upstanding law abiding citizens "they should have known better".

Should be at the top of the list of items in the Royal commission inquiry - right after how this fucker ever got a FAL.
The justice system is repeatedly handing out weak or non existent penalties for serious crime involving firearms.
Like this as another example. onehttps://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/108410965/family-huddle-in-terror-as-drunken-angry-neighbour-shoots-at-their-house
And the cunt that got caught poaching last year in Canterbury - shot a farm stag after being warned off the property earlier that day.
No FAL, his mate neither. The judge gave him community service cos the poor little fucktard couldn’t afford to pay the fines he already racked up due to his other offending. FFS .... zero deterrent. Should have been a min 3 or 5 years in the slammer.
But Jacinda and her mob want to stop putting poor little misunderstood munters in jail.
And have already stated on the public record that police and courts should go easy on certain criminal activity.
Now some extremely serious questions need to be asked of her in the veil.
