    Today's press release from Nash

    https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/...-public-safety

This section will get some attention.

Prohibited parts include any component of a prohibited firearm, or any component that can enable a firearm to be used as a semi-automatic or fully automatic weapon. Examples could include bump stocks, free-standing pistol grips and silencers.

It beggars belief that the words 'pistol grips' and 'silencers' can be used in a sentence discussing the enabling of a firearm to be used as a semi-automatic or fully automatic weapon. Who the hell is advising these people?

@DPT, get ready to write a letter.

"Ban pump action shotguns with more than a five shot capacity"

Surely a high percentage of the 250,000 will be affected by that change?

Just read it. Includes ammo used in aforesaid naughty firearms.

    Wonder if this the death knell for 5.56/223 7.62x39, 7.62x51/308, 7.62x54 ?

Bump stocks and silencers? You don't need to wonder who is advising them that is US anti-gun lobby rhetoric.

I doubt it. Not impossible, but I doubt it.

If there is a serious possibility that they are about to ban suppressors in this immediate Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines and Parts) Amendment Bill, I would like to know how this can be argued. This would be an indescribable loss to the hunting community, and a significant future public health problem with all the deaf bastards what will result.

Call bullshit, any semi or pump action that can take 5, 3 1/2 inch shells is now illegal is the most stupid bit apart from the rest of it. Surely an appeal against a 5 day select comittee review process is unheard of. How can they get anything even approaching review done in that time. Its an unconstitutional whitewash.

I guess it's all over for service rifle, 3 gun, IPSC rifle, multigun etc. Unless you want to use lever or bolt actions... or those shitty carbine kits. I'll still have a go at exemption for us in my submission.

Just read it. Now I'm confused with what the hell they are actually trying to accomplish. It makes no sense.

The Arms Amendment Bill will have its first reading tomorrow, and be referred to a Select Committee for a swift public submissions process.
In other words they'll completely ignore any submissions.

can enable a firearm to be used as a semi-automatic or fully automatic weapon. Examples could include bump stocks, free-standing pistol grips and silencers.
Glossing over how retarded they just made themselves look it sounds like they're banning suppressors.

Prohibited firearms include semi-automatics and MSSAs; and shotguns with detachable magazines or internal magazines which hold more than five rounds.
My interpretation of this is that they've realized they left semi auto centrefires with internal five rounders in a grey area and have closed that, SKS isn't making it through.

Semi-automatic and pump action shotguns with a non-detachable tubular magazine which holds no more than five rounds
Pump actions limited to 5 rounds as well. Goodbye Mav 88s and Mos 590s.

maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment: unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm
There's your potential repercussions for not handing one in.

There will be exemptions for specially licensed dealers, bona fide collectors, museum curators and firearms used during dramatic productions, as there are now. They must take steps to disable the weapon and follow other guidelines around security and safety.

C-Cat is staying but guns will have to be deactivated.

    Thing of note:

    Amnesty ends in September.
Semi auto .22 magazine limit lower to 10.
"Military style" ammunition banned. Goodbye green tip 5.56.

Casual reminder they spent the last decade fixated on a little bar off the back of a pistol grip.
