Sad news. Dave was a nice guy and a talented craftsman in wood, metal, and stone. We did several cartridge deals over the years.
Enjoyed rereading his book recently RIP
RIP, Dave. Condolences to his friends and family too.
Sad to hear. Had several interactions with Dave over the years. A man of his word.
Passing of a legend. RIP Dave

Sorry to hear that
His books and stories are some of my favourites
Fark, I'm reading one of his books at the moment. See his son often, Dave always stopped for a chat with us during whitebait season,
Sad to hear.
RIP Dave. Another Good Bugger Gone.
Was a prominent person in the Rod n Rifle era. Loved those hills.
Was only talking to a mate about the Styx River the other day and he mentioned bumping into the McClunies in there some years back, R.I.P Dave
He made the rifle stock on my first rifle - A Husky 30-06. Used to drop in on the way to South Westland Thar hunting and was always happy to give good advice. I really enjoyed his books. A real Kiwi Icon hunter in my view.
Bit late on this one sorry,
I never met dave but I really would have liked to, when i was in high school I used to rent out his books from the local library and they really did help to inspire me to pursue a life of hunting for work and for fun. Often re-read them and get the same feeling I had when i was younger. A really great author and hunter who left a mark on people he never even knew, and thats pretty special.
RIP
