577/450 long barrel Martini and lobbing sights, 500 grain projectile, 85 grains swiss BP. really good fun, should hit the target at about 250 fps, dont use heavy gongs, you wont see them swing.

Personally I would look at the 284 Winchester. Your 6.5x55 will do the closer stuff. Very good brass available with Lapua making 6.5x284 brass. Just need resizing. Very efficient case...

Why not start with what you have now (assuming you already have a rifle) as long its got the legs surely better to shoot thatfor a while until you get an idea of what you really want
