The correct answer to the original question has already been given. But I'm gonna give it again. I currently own .223, .243, 6.5mm, .308. I've owned a few others in the past, .25, 7mm, .204......

Dublin...no issue getting x39mm ammo, reloading subsonic is piss easy too...... agree .308 is another good option...goats are easy with .223 very easy.

I'd go with 223 for bulk buying if you're not into reloading. Got much 7.62x39 ammo left? if so, a bolt gun in that cal is a no brainer. A suppressor on it will help too.

223 a fine little caliber but I'd give the most versatile all-rounder title to the 243. Ideal flat shooter for very long range varmints, good range of projectiles down to 55gr, but much more...

Apart from economy, I would say most any of the 6mm, .25, and 6.5mm you can mag cycle would be more versatile cartridges.

You're right and infatuated. Take a cold shower. You'll still be right afterwards.

Versatile is just another term for all-rounder, which means for me the 308. ( yes it's just your infatuation with a new rifle:thumbsup:)

I dont believe any decent barrel these days needs breaking in. One thing I definitely am convinced of in MV migration. Getting a mv change usually after a couple of hundred rounds through the barrel....

Never shot a barrel in yet on a hunting rifle. My last one, a s/s barrel AR16, I took it easy for first few rounds while sighting in then just used it. It was accurate enough for head/neck shots on...

J.P rifles one is fairly basic, every first 20, 40, 60, rounds you give bore a polish with JB paste. Then every 300 rounds JB. Guess carbon clean in between and copper if necessary. I've decided to...

Hey Fraser, the old man has shot a few at bush ranges with his 44mag. They kill well at those distances with none running off. He was using the leverevolution ammo big exit wounds alot of damage.
