If you are only shooting relatively short range you could use 30-30 projectiles at 30-30 velocities.

A bit of twink on the tip of the front sight works well in low light. Do they even still make twink?

I do what the instructions that came with my DPT said to do - after shooting, take suppressor off, take it apart and clean it with WD40. It then sits in the shed in pieces until the next trip.

I would also try some ammunition that is less than 60 years old. It is likely that the ammo has degraded more over that time than the rifle has.
