Go up another grain with the 178 grainers. I have had three 06's shoot 57.5 g of 2209 very well with 180g bullets, with velocities 2800 - 2880fps. It's a standard load for me and any .30/06.

put down .22LR and be done with it.....your 3.5" 12ga will be put down as a 12ga its NO DIFERENT ..... your 357mag wont be called a 38 special and your 44 magnum wont be called a 44 special so...

Remington 1858 caliber .44 Cogswell Travelling pistol in .75" I shoot with both, the Cogswell takes 12 gauge slugs patched with pillow case linen. Touching it off gets your attention.
