While that's good advice the title of the thread is deer cal and ammo cost. And if wanting to shoot alot barrel life should be considered. Sent from my GT-S5360T using Tapatalk 2

And as easy as that a new technical term for rifles is born. LLS = Labia Locking System. If you rifle doesn't have this "it's flaps everywhere"

Elk are what we call the pure wapiti imports from the states to deer farms. We call the interbred elk/red from fiordland "wapiti". Well, I do, anyway.

I went 6.5 as well .264 Winchester magnum. I never planned it, it was just what components came together, have Swift 130's doing 3150 fps and 140 amax shooting well just need to chrono them.

My thoughts are the cheapest easiest option would be a 7mmRemMag it's a std factory chambering and it will do everything you want, brass and factory ammo easily (Personally the 7mmSAUM is my fav...

If you're not loading yourself, I'd say go for something not overly exotic (factory ammo price and availability). Which I guess would tend to lean to the 7RM? :D

I've got a 7SAUM and a 7mm Rem mag, They are pretty similar in performance. I would go for a Tikka T3 in 7mm Rem mag. Put a good scope on and you will be good to 600 yds plus.

    284. Rem mag performance with a good thousand round extra barrel life.

.30/06 loaded with 208gr A max will give you fairly decent, non magnum whack down range.

How far out do you intend to shoot? If under 400 yards, just stick with the .270win? cheap enough to buy ammo if you don't want to reload, and if you do, there are a few good bullet options now with...
