First time I have tried a trail cam this week. I got 57 pics over 24 hours, but only one animal 42714 ignore the date/time stamp as camera is rooted and I cant change settings.

Going back to the original post a 308 is probably all you want. Good out to 300m plus. Good for a bush hobbit gun and reasonable for more open country. Plenty of options with 'roll your owns' too.
