I hunt Nth canterbury tops and have kept records of the distances I've shoot deer/animals from 2008. I've shot 35 animals in that time and the average range is 347yds. The furtherest was 638yds.

5.8mm sounds excessive, most sporter weight barrels wouldnt have that much meat at the muzzle even before threading.
