I have just replaced mine for the same reason.... it is not worth getting them cleaned and re gassed. (depending on the scope value) Mind you my old one took a beating on a rock with my full body...

If your 270 is any good, keep that and invest in some hand loading gear, some 150 grn LR accubonds and perhaps a decent scope. You will be good from 0 - 600 yds, and by the time you get bored by that...
