Put some carbon clean liquid in a small container..invert rifle and put end of barrel in liquid overnight and it will just wipe off...do not use a wire brush or any type of scouring pad...

fixed 3x fixed 4x or a 3x9 suits me down to the ground...I dont shoot past 300 yards more than once in a blue moon...and a red hind is still easily doable with fixed 3x at that range...for sure...
