Reminds me of the old long drop at goat pass. The advice was to take a few rocks in with you to weight the paper after you'd used it. If not done there was a high likelihood that you'd be wearing it...

Interesting thread. I did my first hunt at the weekend and did pretty much as tikka mentioned above. I didn't see any deer but saw plenty of sign. I found it really interesting following deer tracks...

Who sells rifles? Can't think of any I want to get rid of, they all out shoot me. Mine are all reasonably budget rifles but they do the job; and they'd do a better job if I took them for walks more...

I'd just go the humble 223, or maybe 243, for NZ for what I want to hunt. If it's something too far away for the shot then I'd use my boots some more.
