    Haven't noticed my 18 inch barrelled .223 not killing deer, which makes every other cartridge/barrel length question seem ludicrous. Anything works, chop it down

    I believe you can probably modify the howa mag and move the internal block to get a bit more length.

    77gr TMK would be an alternative that fits a standard (short) mag length.

    I'm happy as with my 18.5 inch tube and 80s at 2800, could get closer to 2900 with 2206H but who cares for 50 or 100fps I had some dud 2208 which was like 200fps slow and those loads still killed...
