We actually saw that issue in action the previous week. A guy was shooting some piss-weak .308 ammo at 1000yds and nothing registered.

Primers are never a good indicator. Check for ejector marks and brass shavings, stiff bolt lift,and 'clickers' (primary extraction cam working hard).

I pretty much ignore primers now, except if they're pierced. They can be softer or harder. And different brass is also softer or harder...if a I get a stiffish bolt I will try another brand of brass...

NZTopo50 is a very good app. Free version is good. You can choose either north or south island. New Zealand Topo Maps is fine too.
