You can still drop a reasonable amount of weight without losing toughness, I went from macpac cascade 3.2kg to macpac ascent 2.4kg.

From memory the American stats I saw a couple of years ago said blaze made no meaningful difference to the risk of being shot. Good for helping SAR find injured people though I guess.
