   My Vizsla sleeps inside and has free range of the house, inside and out. He has his own comfy bed next to the couch, he's also got a kennel outside if needed, but chooses to be part of the family....

   +1 for this statement. My dog is inside or outside or where ever I am and she seems happy with that. She is my constant companion all the time, in saying that I go hunting almost on a daily basis...

   We cannot be hunting ALL THE TIME irrespective of any overwhelming wish, but the dog never stops being your companion, on the hill, in the rough, on the hearth, he is there...my dogs are permitted...
