   And I rarely rely on the safety with that particular rifle. I use the set triggger on it and it has actually gone off before when the set trigger is engaged and I've flicked the safety off. well...

   ....better to deal with "faff" than deal with an unintended or misdirected shot.... Not trying to criticize, but need to point out the number of accidents aren't always a result of "inexperienced"...

   cant get head around HOW it would be too noisy unless you hunt with no round in chamber........ most folks will either have safety on or have bolt with round on extractor and not shut completely....

   So the debate of push and control feed has been well debated but when it comes down to a hunting scenario it has little value both will get the bullet into the chamber and back out, projectile choice...

   I'd look at a howa 1500, you can get short barrel 308s with scope and suppressors pretty cheap

    I truly feel sorry for Farmer John so easy in my day a cut down lee enfield. 303 or in my case a parkerhale sporter .303 ex army ammo bought for 10cents each from school mates.

    Strange to even mention Mauser feeds, it’s really what one gets used to. Lions dependant obviously. I for one would put my hand up for something like a Tikka 308.

    Thank you Hugh that was neat - now if I had unlimited funds then I could build up a stalking rifle - but I would use an old Sako Finnbear action and with that a new fluted barrel and a modern...
