53 pages of the .223 being effectively demonstrated to be the most practical ultimate cartridge of any size, let alone compact.

Be silly to buy anything other than a 6.5CM in a factory rifle for general purpose hunting these days 140-147gr 6.5mm bullets of the right construction at 2600-2700 fps kill things extremely well...

Err you would have an 18 inch 260 but wouldn't go shorter than 20 in a creed? You reckon the less than 2% capacity difference will have any meaningful effect on performance in a short barrel?...

Shot 4 deer with the 60 grain Hammer Hunter last evening. 3100 fps. Ranges 150 - 230 yards. All shoulder/chest shot and all pass throughs. 3 of them big lumps of red spikers. One shot each and only...

You don't have to do anything different with a .223 than with any other cartridge if you load decent bullets. Shoot the animal in the big important organs up the front, through the shoulder if you...

Just my $0.02.... If we remove the chambering from the debate and talk purely about true calibre, projectile mass and design, muzzle velocity and energy, we could lose some of the emotion associated...

Have you read the whole thread I wonder?? The wound channel and penetration of the 77 tipped match king is devastating and could easily be mistaken for a 243 or larger caliber. In fact Im using 74...

I taught my two boys to shoot with 222 & 223. Both are excellent shots & have humanely killed deer with the 223 & 6x45. Had I given them a heavy recoiling rifle to learn on I doubt I would have had...

my thoughts are that under 300m it literally doesn't matter. past 300m I prefer 6.5 as I like the ballistics more, but if I spent time with .308 I'm sure I'd get used to it and be fine. I also have...

Here's an old farts opinion. A 140 grn 6.5 caliber bullet with a minimum MV of about 2,600 fps or over will kill any deer out to 300 yards at least. Regardless of the head stamp. If its stamped...
