    Na mate, get stuck in and checker it! For the cost of getting someone to do it, you could buy about 2-3 nice new blanks. Trust me, theres a lot of labour in a good hand cut checkering job.

    Given that you’ve been annealing the brass and getting this problem, perhaps try NOT annealing and try that on a few cases. Remove one variable at a time and you will find the problem.
