I have been looking at the Howa 1500's. I have heard great things about them and am tempted to get one of those when I have my license...

I still reckon it's hard to go past the Howa's for value for money new rifles. I picked up a used .308 Howa Lightweight for $599 last year from the local sports shop. The original owner had bought it...

I started out hunting not far down the road from where your in-laws have their land. My first rifle was a JW15 and the second was a Winchester M94. If I was starting from fresh today and not...

Well a bit of a read up and it looks to be essentially a Rimmed 220 Swift So pretty perky in the velocity department I must go look at it again and check out the dies and cases and try and work...

I kind do it a similar way to Nathan, but the opposite. I don’t bother with the gut or ring piece. Start with deer on its back, remove the legs via hip joint, leaving skin across the back to join...

I do mostly the same but skin most of the way up the back to the front shoulder and use that to wrap the hind quarters kind of,makes nice padding and keeps a lot of the blood off you.

Almost a hunting-story ; When I was 12-ish, my mate and I were staying at kohitere forest near Levin (holidays). We both had our single-shot .22s, cooey and BSA martini. This day, we 'borrowed' one...

I don't have any hunting stories yet, in fact yet to fire the .270 at a moving target. I've only just started on firearms, but as a kid was mad keen on hunting and trapping. I had a 30lb fibreglass...

The old man always knows we just never give them the credit. We shot our way through a box of .22 Hornet without Dad "knowing" and that was a box 50. When we were first playing with it we locked...

You're not going to believe this one.......spotted a rabbit sitting up on top of a small hill in a paddock, ranged it at 327 metres, strong breeze blowing from left to right. Lifted the ancient...

My best fluke wasn’t a pot shot, but was certainly lucky. I took an aimed shot at muntjac doe from a high seat at about 25m, thinking I would take a second shot at her almost adult kid if I got the...

Probably the best fluke shot for me was at a wounded goat a mate had hit that ran across to a far ridge. He tried another couple of shots at it but kept missing. I say get outta the way mate, lie...
