Gave the dog a run on Saturday wanting to see him run some open country... on the first cast less than 100m he stopped.... boom a rooster flushes after a bit of roading... off I cast the dog again,...

If that's not enough, I've been seeing the cocks all over the place... open green paddocks... gravel roads.... State highway 1, state highway 2... a road-kill hen on SH17.... I'm not even kidding......

I have a very small front yard.... probably enough for 3 parking spots.... Out of all the places in Auckland 2 ducks come and sit on my stairs when I leave for work.... Here is a pic... my nephew...

spent a day there, mainly walking on Thompson Track all the way up to the summit... it was only a walk (no expectations), looked pretty dense with supple jack everywhere, 4x4 offroad clubs were...

If you have the open country go for open/wide ranging dogs... Just my personal opinion: P&S dogs have a much more sensitive nose than springers/spaniels so you gain efficiency in covering more...
