A bull Tahr is worth seven to ten grand as a trophy. The point of the Trophy industry is that enough bulls should be left to sustain that industry, and they were. Fish and Game have made requests for...

I don't nessatily agree. If we want to keep deer we need them removed from the pest mantra to one of a resource. As for tags it's not a rich man's game in the states if your a resident. It's...

I'd argue WARO is potentially detrimental to population management. They target low impact animals population wise (stags) that then conversely discourages recreational hunters to go to these areas....

I think it's kind of assumed the many mentions of controlling populations is for habitat management you can't manage for habitat without managing for population. The discussion just has more than one...

Yea had heard a bit about that before we went in. We only found our evidence on the last afternoon of the trip. But to be fair we’d already seen plenty of deer so wasn’t too much of a concern

In the early days of our wild deer herds many well heeled hunters traveled here to hunt. As the trophy potential of herds decreased so to did interest in hunting here. Overseas hunters and their...

I'm really impressed with the ethics of the US elk (and moose) hunters. I know they're required to take out all the meat by law. But that seems to have turned into the ethic that it should be done;...

The only really good info that I have seen was from a German deer park where each male was photographed each year until full maturity or culling. In that Park the stags were from 10 to 13yrs when...

hey no problem with that . We all have our limits as to how much we can carry and I would not expect mere mortals as ourselves to carry out an entire stag . Obviously size and weight limits apply ,...

Completely understand. Grew up in Rotorua and learnt to hunt up in the Kaimais and Paeroa range. I get it but in the roar its definitely alot easier to be selective even in the roar as we hunt...

Correct. It's harder to be selective when you are bush hunting as you don't have that luxury of time. For a lot of NI hunters it's mostly bush hunting.
