Was in Haurangi on weekend, saw a young stag and an older one (hanging with hinds and fawns no less) and they were still in velvet, older one was 8-10pt, very grey looking so prob strip ok Hamish

If you are hunting the flats anything will do but if you want to get up high I recommend the best boot you can afford . The tops can be along way up and can be unforgiving

Just go hunt it, be an adventure for sure, odds are you will hunt it differently to someone else and as a result you will see things they wont, including deer. Make up your own mind about the areas...
