You should check these out Bushnell LRHSi 4.5-18×44 ,FFP, zero stop, illuminated, 24 mils adjustment, made in Japan -same factory as Nightforce, great glass highly recommend. A definite step up...

It's not a big calibre, but I'd use the steel recoil lug for sure. The action screws can't be tourqued too tight without damaging the plastic stock anyway. From memory it's about 30-35 inch pounds....
