I am a secondary school teacher who enjoys hunting, especially getting high in te hills and glassing. I use a 7mm remington magnum.

    Yep got one. A much modified 7 SAUM. I figured I'd see how light I could get it. Fluted everything, lightweight firing pin, carbon fibre stock of course. Got the bare rifle weight down to 5lb 3 oz....

    162 amax worked really well in that velocity range. So you wouldn't go wrong with eld-m.

    Shot the South Island Steel Challenge this morning. Thanks to Ozzy for organising it. With a slow draw, plenty of misses and slow transitions between targets I challenged strongly for last place....

    Get the best you can afford. You will have it for ages. I bought a Leica 900 scan back in 2006(?), still going strong. Angle compensation, or even just stating it would be good.
