   Had that happen. Sika stag at 550yds watching him in my steiners. Set up my gun and could just make out the white rump with my 2.5-8 vx3. Got a hard lesson in glass that day

   Zeiss terra 3-9 z600 is a good bet. Great glass and useful reticle. Leupold vx3 3.5-10 Bushnell elite if you can find one Nikon monarch Weaver grandslam. All these you could get for under $800...

    I don't mean to come across like a wanker if i did. I have spent hours shooting multiple calibres out to 1000m so pretty confident at that range otherwise I wouldn't be attempting to shoot 500m~....

    not if you know what you are doing and your loads are capable. A mate of mine has an 18" 308 shooting 168 amax @2600 and has shot sika/tahr/chamois out to 570yds

    Yeah will be sending them a a bit faster as have a 20" barrel. Will try the 168eldms if these don't shoot.

    Yeah agree with you there. I am more concerned about the size of my 5 shot group, even the 3 shot. Last thing I want is to shoot a deer in the guts or leg then either not recover or spend hrs...
