The first bit of case extraction is performed by lifting the bolt hence primary extraction and uses a camming action to start the case rearwards. Rem 700s are bad for this not being set up properly...

I would still recommend hearing protection with these small cases. The shot is still by far loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage. You can however get away with a smaller and lighter...
