Steelisreal liked post by Tararua Phil On thread : 6.5 grendel projectiles and powder results.
I mainly go for the lung shot (broadside) as they're a varmint proj as you say, so if it hits a rib it pulverises the internal tissue so they don't go far. If it's close that I can neck or head shoot...

90gn Speer hp in front of 26gns of 2207 for a little over 2800fps out of a 20inch barreled Howa mini action stainless. Very accurate & deadly on goats & deer. They don't go far except down.

I'd be keen although I guess I'd have to adapt it from an Aussie rabbit accent to a kiwi one so the local feral pussies can understand it.

Finnwolf liked post by Tararua Phil On thread : So how far can you usefully shoot a 7.62x39?
It depends on ones ability & eyesight. i've got a mini actioned Howa with 3-9 scope & can consistantly knock over goats & odd deer out @ 200 mtres, but wouldn't want to shoot @b that distance too...

Feather or Shoot liked post by Tararua Phil On thread : Interesting experience
Had a couple of Berdan primed 7.62x39 steel cased reloads that didn't ignite while goat shooting so deprimed hydraulically onto wet ground. After a few fine days I decided to see if they'd go off...
