Hmmmm - my Howa did the same. Cordite is onto it I think we used to passivate boat fittings (which are a higher grade of SS) or they'd "spot" as well.

Nothing wrong with it IMO but for a long time there were better choices. With much of our NZ hunting being in country where shortish barrels are preferred, the factory ammo for 270 just didn't suit...

As a long time horseman I'd recommend doing at least a dozen rides locally in the month before you go, the hour per visit to the stables it would take over that time would reward you handsomely.
