I think that the qualities of a true hunter are intrinsic rather than extrinsic. Its the stuff you can't see that is important. Empathy for the quarry - you won't have that if you don't have it...

sako 75 stainless walnut in 223. saw one in a shop recently in mint condition but they wanted $2450 AUD for it. Sako A5 in 6.5x55 which I sold when I was 20 still regret that one.

tikka liked post by DavidGunn On thread : Why do people use a guide?
Because a guide has sussed out the area over a period of time, knows the local deer habits.

tikka liked post by Dama dama On thread : .17hmr vs .22lr vs .223 BEST FARM GUN?
Yup, if your biggest critters hares and possums, go for 17hmr. Cheap to run, much quieter than a 223, arguably safer and more range than a 22. Would recommend a suppressor for the 17.

The Grendel only needs 14.5" of barrel to get its maximum velocity from a 123gr bullet. Use BM 8208 and it can get you 2500fps no drama. I load mine to 2450fps and have shot it to 500m with great...
