New scales, throwers etc have shields to protect from interference from lights, phones etc. The most important part of the question is to have plenty of light, and by plenty I mean heaps.........

I got a LED unit with a long cord and a plug recently from Bunnings for about $80. Came with all the mounting hardware (easy as), and it's a nice bright diffuse white light, well worth the money ...
