The 'Jurasic Park' feeling bit is from about 20km downstream of Taumaranui, through to Pipiriki. Taumaranui itself down is pretty boring for day 1, as its just farmland, and in Feb will be VERY bony....

I would take component shortage one step further, and have a look around the house at anything that may need replacing in the next year or so (fridge/freezer/washing machine etc) and have a plan....
