I have a 25 Souper built on a 24-inch barrel Tikka M55, normally shooting 100gn (87gn for long range wallabies). It replaced a 25-06 which wasn't much faster for more powder burnt.
How thick is the bush you hunt in?
What's wrong with a fixed 4x - A Leupold, Kahles, or similar has worked for the last 70 years.
My Czech mother and daughter:

It depends - I'm badly short-sighted and had laser eye surgery when I was 20. Had to physically adjust all my scopes as the focal length changed from where my glasses were. Now I'm in my 50's natural...
Just remember, this is a thread for a beginner hunter!
Knowing what to take, and knowing how to cope with less gear only comes with experience. We all probably started off carrying too much stuff...
Personally I wouldn't bother with it.
I saw many Peloi scopes trying to be sighted in at our range (the agent was local) and none of them kept zero, also most had huge POI change as the...

The Health & Safety muppets in parts of Aussie do - but not here!
A well-mounted snorkel is a lot cheaper than a new engine (and i wouldn't be driving up braided rivers without one)
My Triton is only a year newer, on 245/65/17 ATs and handles it well!
+1 for 25-08
But if you want to shoot factory ammo, as much as it irks me to say this - 6.5 creed? (or it's parent 260 Rem).

Why not the parent case 250 Savage, or the AI version?

NZDA South Canterbury shot the JM Wilkinson shoot in the last 6 weeks - still a National event!!!
I have a 25-08 (or 25 Souper as it was called in some reloading books)
In all honesty, it performs just the same as 243/257 Rob/260/6.5 creed when the latter are loading light - but I just wanted...
Did you not do think about doing the NZDA HUNTs course? - CHCH has a good programme.
it may help to embed technical skills now that you have developed the mindset.
Davos Hunting and Fishing in Timaru is also part of the firearms dealer to dealer network.
Mr Woodman, by any chance??
I'd say the opposite: you current have 6 different powders for 6 rifles (possibly 7)
I would be downsizing where a single powder does more than 1 calibre (though possibly not the best powder for...
I'm feeling for you

I've done this with a Benelli M1 a decade ago - extra barrel was almost the same price as a new gun.
do you really miss the last two inches (especially with interchangeable chokes)???
