I like the stripping the bolt idea too. Remove the firing pin and take the tension off the bolt handle as it closes might give a hint as to what is going on as well.
Thanks mimms2.

Oh , and have plenty of engineering experience so not to shabby with calipers. Used to machine high performance motor cycle gearboxes that were sold on the international market. Have made gearboxes...
Thanks for the advice mimms2. The rifle isn't mag fed , has the internal 2 roung box mag and floor plate so was just sitting the rounds on top and there's no resistance sliding them into the...
I would have thought the same . Surprised how much variation there is in the as yet unsized brass too . All same factory Federal rounds .All fired through this rifle . As you said hopefully trimming...
I have fished through the fired cases and found that they all seem to vary in size exactly like the resized ones so obviously not very good quality to begin with.... and I guess explains why every...
So I ran both through the action. I closely checked both mouths for marks etc and both fine. Short one came out as it went in....but the longer one came out with two flatish spots again pretty much...
Ok , so just dug around in the resized rounds and found one at near enough spec length around 2.714/5 and one long one at around 2.724/5....
156095
156096
So that's the long one....and this is...
Already run it back through the die so can't do a pic. All I can say is that it went in the rifle round and came out with a couple of small flat spots around edge of case mouth. Visually obvious that...
Yep , you are right. In my defense several people have said to chamber a resized case to see how they fit , but I should really have measured them first to check and I should know better....my bad....
There's some pretty big rabbits round our way and I'd hate for one to hop away wounded. Pretty safe in the knowledge that when they explode that they are probably not going anywhere.... :D
Chambered one and the bolt closed but it did need a wee bit of pressure to close. Ejected and inspected case and the case mouth was slightly pinched.
So stood that case and one other next to an...
Ok , just polished 7 cases and gave the inside of neck a rub with a rag on a screwdriver... followed instructions on lube can and lubed inside of the die and hosed down cases (aerosol lube) including...
Yeah... got what you said re lube Micky Duck.
The wipe on outside of case was in relation to cleaning the brass. Ok , I' m going to bite the bullet and go give it a go.
Just gave the die a clean so...
Ok... So I have a mount for the press so I can just use it in my vice. The resize die seems simple to set up , and I have hornady case lube that came with kit.
So in theory I just have to give cases...
One of the videos I watched was for the same rcbs dies I have and that explained die set up (just kissing the shell holder for sizing /decapping die) and the second die for bullet seating so those...
Comparator ????
And I don't have a case trimmer either so will have to get one of those but I understood that is used after sizing (?) so was on my later list....
I also saw on the vids that...
Thanks for the input guys.
I realize that I will need a reloading manual and primers etc but being so close to Christmas those items will have to wait. But being that I have around 200 cases I...
Thanks Noswal ... that's just the sort of advice I was after. I have been watching the vids but none of them have mentioned cleaning or polishing the dies.
That's why I thought I better check with...
Ok gentleman.... I have secured an RCBS 2 die set and shell holder for the 338 lm.
And I now also have picked up a Hornady deluxe classic reloading kit ....
Now I know you will probably tell me...
