It's thought they can cause interference with scales electrics. Done a bit of reading, and the opinions are pretty mixed. I guess if you have very sensitive scales it may affect them more.

That's a bloody good point, I think I'll put a small dividing gap (3-4mm) on the part of the bench with the scales. I've got Chargemaster and A&D scales, so definitely don't want any shaking.
