Interesting. I went through all posts and in order of 'popularity' it went 243 then 7mm08 then 308.
Even so, based on other research, I'm kinda leaning toward 308 and the only thing that gives me...

So the gun safe got installed. The FAL application is in. The safety course is in early May.
And a friend will let me use (indefinitely) his CZ BRNO in .22 once I'm legal.
So making some progress...

Some great responses here gents, thank you. We've decided on a .22LR to start and looking at Tikka T1X (current preference, since the follow up rifle will likely be a T3X) or CZ 457 with a good scope...

Thanks for the input gents. Reading all responses from here and other places, it does seem that a reasonable path is a .22 and then a little later something bigger when we actually go hunting...

Yeah, I was looking at the ammo cost difference. My only 'concern' was pushing out to 100m both at the range and when talking to bunnies. My understanding at this time is that this would be 'easy'...
