I think if it is a quality barrel like a Kreiger, Bartlin etc. its worth following their run in recommendations. For a standard barrel it might not matter.

I would call it a barrel burner, a 6.5/284 is bad enough, with the rem mag case capacity even worse.

I have used 142gr SMK on the game you mentioned. They work fine on rabbits, there are better choices for wallaby and they are hopeless on goats. They go straight through.
