Correct, you no longer need any permit to bring in a scope. If under $1000NZD you won't pay GST or import duty, but if over $1000NZD they'll sting you.

I've got an Oryx. It's the only chassis I've ever used so can't make any great comparisons other than it is quite heavy, it's a solid bit of kit.
