Hi AMac. I am usually fishing those weights in about 20m but it depends on wind/current. I always try to use the lightest weight I can and still get to the bottom. 10-14lb braid with 15-20lb leader...

I have caught them on soft baits before too but you are right, live baits are the go. It's just a bit more dicking around. Especially if you are drift fishing like I normally do.

Yeah. We were on our way back to Kaiuma bay and it was the first time I had dropped a line in that spot. Pretty sure I hooked another one too but dropped it. I might modify one of the slow jigs and...

They sure are. This one went back in the ocean to get a bit bigger.

Good effort catching that from the shore on light gear.

I read somewhere that if you want to eat these "vegetarian" fish you shouldn't open the gut cavity. It has a black lining that can apparently taint the flesh.
