The first photo is the pad sunk into a bed of plaster so it could be held while the hard backing plate was rebated with a router to fit inside the stock cavity.
It was the guy with the bung shoulder that carried out his last deer.
Stick with the tacky one. It will match the rifle.

I've suggested a jandal, and if Dazz doesn't stop being nasty I'm going to wander out into the workshop and ask how he is finding the time to be posting on the interwebs.
In my experience, saying please results in better responses to requests.
