Good day out and about yesterday. Seven year old Spence with his first proper stag and a neat 12 pointer I managed to snag as well. Both roaring nicely.

No monster but a true blue bush Sika stag with a body the size of a yearling Red.
Few heehaws but nothing serious in the Kawekas that I have heard. Came trotting in to a single call.
Pro's for 16". If suppressed, perfectly fine to shoot and will do out to 500 yards with the right ammo selection.
If not suppressed then anything in between will definitely be louder and have more...
A .22 and a .243.
The .243 will have a better margin for error on goats than the .223 and that is what you intend on using it for.
If you find one with a 1:8" twist you can shoot the heavier...
Young Spence doing a bit of pest management.
When I was seven I sure as heck wasn't shooting anything larger than a sparrow.

Reloder 26 does add a good amount of fps on at least for the heavier projectiles.
If it isn't 1:8" or more then the 95gr sst or ballistic tips work well. If it is 1:8" then the 105gr targex are...
Some have already stripped. A couple of stags the mates got on the main Kaweka range over a week ago were hard as and stripped out fine too.

No one has started the annual stag and buck thread yet so thought I might as well kick it off
Show us your stags or bucks, big or small post them all!
Here is one from the other day the...
I think there is a couple of different mag styles. The ones for the .243 and .308 were terrible. Replaced under warranty then crapped out again. Got new springs made but still don't feed reliably.
Yeah I am fairly confident they do, haven't actually paid attention. I still have one in .243 so I'll have a look next time I'm in the safe.
Problem with the gen 11 is the price looks like it will be quite close to the likes of a tikka so it probably won't do all that well.
Shame because the gen 1 for it's price was a good entry level...
Mine never shot better than 2". Still shot a few deer, pigs and goats with it. Ended up cutting it down so I could break it down and put it in a pack, was bloody handy.
I tend to shoot for the lungs, head or neck with the .223 so do have a preference for softer more frangible projectiles to achieve a bit more damage. These can blow up a bit but never had a problem....
Pine block Red from this morning....

A recovered 75gr eldm from a big body Red at approximately 200 yards. No major bones, through ribs, lungs then resting under the off side skin.

Couple of Kaweka Sika with the 75gr eldm. Was trying to get the young fulla his first Sika but bush hunting it is bloody difficult to find an adequate rest quickly enough so unfortunately he missed...

Something a bit different.
The likelihood of culling being undertaken in both the Kawekas and a Ruahines is relatively high. The budget is there.
Is it a bad thing?
No!
Is it new?
No!
The Kawekas have had culling...
It isn't a new thing, pulsar turn around times are very average. Also a lot of the units do need to go back too. Couple of ours have taken longer than 10 to 12 weeks that's for sure.
Scott Traill who is a very well respected gunsmith used to have a few videos of shooting with 10" and 12" 308s he made including shooting deer out to nearly 500 yards with them.
There are 168gr...
Not really. Without looking on the computer I'm picking there will be some powders that burn as much if not more in an 18" or 19" barrel than other powders in a longer barrel. So with that in mind...
Dogs are still about. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack and everyone is always a step behind. Their range is huge and thy appear to be continuously on the move.
They are killing for fun...
There are plenty of moose that get shot with a 6.5x55. Your creedmoor will do fine. It's largely down to projectile choice.
If you're dead set on getting a different caliber there is no point in...
A couple of Sika in the weekend for the Howa mini and the 75gr eldm., with the help of the little dog of course....

It works fine. Definitely not a barrel stretching round though. We pulled some and I can't remember what the powder variation was but it was quite considerable.
When one of the big chain stores...
