I tend to shoot for the lungs, head or neck with the .223 so do have a preference for softer more frangible projectiles to achieve a bit more damage. These can blow up a bit but never had a problem....

A recovered 75gr eldm from a big body Red at approximately 200 yards. No major bones, through ribs, lungs then resting under the off side skin.

Couple of Kaweka Sika with the 75gr eldm. Was trying to get the young fulla his first Sika but bush hunting it is bloody difficult to find an adequate rest quickly enough so unfortunately he missed...
A couple of Sika in the weekend for the Howa mini and the 75gr eldm., with the help of the little dog of course....

makka the 95gr targex hasn't been available for quite some time. However the 105gr is and it is absolutely outstanding. Kills way better than it should. 600 yards plus so fair bit more than I'd ever...
Yeah nice, certainly will pack a lot more of a punch! And way less effected by wind too which is a biggy for low bc projectiles.
Plenty of people try head/neck shooting with the .223 which is fine....
I haven't chronographed the 77gr but the 75gr eldm are doing about 2500fps. So pretty slow! I haven't tried any form of load development however.
The 75gr has about 650+ f/lbs energy at 300 yards...
Hence why I stated that a .223 is not a long range deer gun.
The question that was asked was what was a good compromise for barrel length, and I stated my opinion. Long barrel on a rifle that isn't...
There are alot of different opinions on that one and could be a whole thread on it's own, probably is already at least one haha.

Yeah I agree there, I have 4 different types of small rifle primers and have mix matched them several times. For 223 ranges I have not noticed any difference. Might have to check it if you were right...
