I reckon you have it sussed bit of the two things.......unconsistant closing and the forend thing...being a break open you loading downwards WITHOUT consistant thing to push onto will not be doing...

if so...try this......put off hand on the forestock,infront of your pack...or behind it holding action(works with BLR this way) if you are pushing downwards without a bipod to load,your results will...

ok,I picked up this bit...noone else commented on it....forend loaded in same manner and light pressure via scope hold....so I take it you shooting over a bag,but not using a bipod and pushing...
