    I dont use the 300blackout.... I did however own and use a 7.62x39 mm and ran .308 pills in it.

    we had similar dilemma with that Vs .223 for deer...my conclusions were.....

    yip take the repeater...and some heavier blunt...

    yip take the repeater...and some heavier blunt nosed loads.... there are great projectiles in 7mm as were made for 7x57 back in the day and the 7mm waters also has flatties...its a 30/30 necked down...
