I do the same with my GPS and know the life of batteries in my torch and headlamp (yes, I carry redundancies) but still carry spares. You can never be too safe.

You'd be better off carrying the spares in your day pack, they don't take up much room and I'd rather have them on me if they're needed rather than no light and a flat GPS and unable to find camp in...
